Liberal Democrats: Alan Hagger for Police and Crime Commissioner

I am an experienced service commissioner with a track record of achieving impactful change across public services. As your PCC, I will focus on doing what works to reduce crime and support victims.

My plan for Wiltshire and Swindon

  • Restore community policing through a partnership between police and residents – officers will be visible and known to people in their communities, and people will be able to contact police where they live
  • Tackle the epidemic of violence against women and girls
  • Maximise investment to support all victims of crime
  • Tackle anti-social behaviour through targeted work with partners
  • Invest in crime prevention and work with young people at risk of offending
  • Reduce repeat offending by providing a clear pathway for offenders leaving custody
  • Help improve support for police officers – from mental health support and dealing with the emotional and psychological impact of what they do, to advocating for fair pay and terms and conditions

I will represent the people of Wiltshire and Swindon with openness and transparency. I will be honest about what the police can and can’t do, and through working in partnership with local residents, maximise what is possible.

Let me know your thoughts on policing and crime

Connected to the community

I grew up in South London before moving to Winchester and later to Amesbury. Throughout my 50-year career I have been working to support people: First as a residential social worker with deaf children, then working with children with learning disabilities, and ultimately commissioning services to support the most vulnerable amongst us.

My partner and I have six children between us, four grandchildren, two cats and two dogs – an ageing golden retriever and a silly sausage dog.

Experienced in policing and community safety

I have ten years’ hands-on experience as Head of Strategic Commissioning for the Police and Crime Commissioner for Hampshire and the Isle of Wight.

I know the system, and I know what is possible. Under my leadership, we developed highly effective services for victims of crime, repeat offenders, young people at risk of offending, and crime prevention initiatives.

Before that, I was Director of Commissioning for Hampshire County Council.
